The development of the psychoanalytic method will be presented in a historical context (based on the works of Bernheim and Charcot; the collaboration between Freud, Fliess and Breuer). The road from hypnosis to the cathartic method and free association: from cathartic healing to the interpretation of resistance and the discovery of transference in the Dora analysis. |

The course deals with the psychoanalytic theory of technique: the basic concepts of resistance and transference, transference neurosis, countertransference; understanding of clarification, confrontation and interpretation, of remembering, repeating, working through. Various theories of technique will be derived from their basic principles, their applicability tested and compared (Freud, Klein, Winnicott, I-Psychology, Kohut, Kernberg, Meltzer). Basic elements of psychoanalytic treatment technique: setting, rule of abstinence, free association. Techniques of dream interpretation. Special problems in dealing with countertransference (projective identification and counter-identification). The psychoanalytic initial interview as well as the finalization of a treatment and its specific dynamics. |
