OPEN WEBINAR
International Law in a World in Permacrisis

Climate change, war(s), trade disputes, and the COVID-19 pandemic: We live in an era of „Permacrisis“, in which we move from one crisis to the next, and the totality of the global challenges we face is overwhelming.

These challenges also have ramifications for international law: What is, and can be, its role – especially when cooperation seems to be at a low point, when it should be at its peak?

Is there even such a thing as „international law“ or, rather, a myriad of international law-concepts, depending on who you ask, and where?

Despite its criticisms: If it didn’t exist already, we’d have to invent it.

Join us for this free webinar as we explore the role of international law, different interpretations of it, some of its limitations, and, most importantly, how it can be utilized to address complex global issues.

The final portion of the webinar will touch upon the importance of Public International Law, and provide information on a new, one-year LLM. in Public International Law, jointly developed by SFU and UNITAR to provide a robust law curriculum that includes policy, as well as international relations, and direct access to the United Nations. The programme will take place on-campus at SFU, Vienna, starting this October.
