10th April, 2025, 7 pm | Dr.in Saba Khodayarifard
“Dream, Consciousness and the Brain”
About the Lecture
Understanding the mind has always been one of humanity’s greatest ambitions. Freud made uniquely tremendous steps in this endeavour. Psychoanalysts and other clinicians all over the world have relied on his teachings for decades, treating millions of people with a wide range of disorders and problems. Today some of Freud’s theories such as those concerning dream and the function of dreaming are scientifically and irrefutably supported.
The first part of this lecture will explore Freud’s theory that dreams are a nocturnal form of ‘wish fulfilment’ for one thing, and that they help ‘protect sleep’ for another. Mark Solms provides empirical neuroscientific evidence for these dream functions. The second part will focus on groundbreaking findings regarding the source of consciousness in the brain, challenging long-held misconceptions.
